New Year Nails: Essie Lollipop

I was having trouble deciding what my color du jour would be last night, but realized that I wanted to do something new and different.

Well, at least new and different for me. You're talking to the girl with an impressive collection of blues and greens... and few neutrals to speak of. Today, that's about to change.

This, my friends, is Essie Lollipop (I've heard some whispers about people's bottles saying "Lolipop", but mine is spelled right.). It's about as red as a red can be (my nails kind of remind me of hooker nails, but in some weird way, I like that) and so far from what I usually wear. Maybe that's why it's so fabulous to me.

Either way, this year is almost over and it has been wild to say the least. 2010 will bring you more giveaways, more fun and definitely more polish. I hope you have a wonderful (and safe!) night, and I'll see you next year!

notd: China Glaze Blue Sparrow (and some Holo Goodness!)

Someone said that my nails looked like I let a five year old choose the color/sparkles and I guess that is, partially, true. It just happened to be my inner five year old.

Blue Sparrow is one of those strange colors. It's a neon, so it dries matte... but if you put a top coat on (I used Seche Vite, as I usually do with China Glaze), it looks more like a jelly.

Either way, I love it. It's totally fabulous... and I don't care if my nails looks like those of a child.

notd: Drugstore Darlings Sinful Colors & Wet n Wild!

When I went out to pick up C.'s Christmas stocking gifts, I ran to Walgreens... mostly because I was in a one-stop-shop kind of mood, but also because I wanted to check out the selection of Sinful Colors and Wet 'n Wild lacquers.

What did I grab?

This is Sinful Colors Nail Junkie over Wet n Wild Caribbean Frost. I don't think I've ever seen two colors from two different brands go together so well!

It's going to be a bitch to take off (though I'm going to try the foil trick, so I'll let you know if that pans out) but it looks so amazing, I don't care one bit.

notd: Essie Midnight Cami

I changed my mani the day of Christmas (sorry for the delay on posting this one, guys!) because C. bought me this color for Christmas, as well as another bottle of Matte About You and the Good to Go topcoat... such great little stocking stuffers!

While I did already have a bottle (albeit, unused thus far) of Midnight Cami, I wanted to use my gift bottle instead... so here you go! Topped off with Good to Go, my nails looked like slightly shimmery, dark blue glass. Gorgeous!

Zoya Nail Polish Winner!

So, I removed four of the entries right away (they were posted after the giveaway time ended)... and then I it.

Are you ready to find out who won?

Big congrats to fluffypuppynow! You've been emailed, and I can't wait to send these gorgeous colors to you.

For all of you who didn't win: thank you SO much for participating and following notd. Since we broke 100 followers, I'll be getting another giveaway up (hopefully this weekend!). You guys are amazing.

And, for those of you who celebrate it... Merry Christmas!

notd: OPI Holiday Glow

I love sparkles, and I love vampy colors. So, naturally, I'd love sparkly vampy colors (I know, I'm a genius and I should market the term "sparkly vampy color")... and OPI Holiday Glow, for me, is a winner.

Yeah, it's a little bit browner than I like, but it's kind of a brown-gandy (yep, more made up words!) with tons of red and gold sparkles (enlarge the picture to check them out).

It's pretty kickass for Christmas, if I do say so myself.

Last Chance to Win!

Hey guys... things have been so hectic around here that I haven't been able to set up the secondary giveaway, so I'll be posting the next one this weekend (stay tuned!), but I wanted to remind you that at midnight tonight (MST, for those of you concerned) the giveaway for SIX Zoya Green Nail Polishes will end!

Make sure to head over to the post now and enter... think of it as my little Christmas gift to one of you!

notd: Butter London Billy No Mates

This color actually has a little bit more blue in it (it happens to match today's jeans PERFECTLY, which is crazy!), but it's definitely unique. I've never found another gray-blue like it...but correct me if you have.

Unlike my previous Butter London post, this color was fully opaque in two coats. Great application, great color... I'm totally impressed, Butter!

notd: Zoya Tangy

I had to get back to the Zoya Greens eventually (though let me tell you, China Glaze Medallion was a raging bitch to remove!), so now I only have one left to post after Tangy.

This color is so vibrant, almost neon. I'm really, really enjoying it. But what makes it even better?

Look at the orange flash! It's so gorgeous and really unique.

This was three coats, and it went on really easily, just as I expect from Zoya polishes. I'm not sure how long it'll stay on since it's not really a winter color (Tangy was released as part of the Candy Collection in Summer 2007), but I like it quite a bit. This will definitely be seen again when the weather warms up.

Like this color? Enter to win it on my Zoya Greens Giveaway!

Also, I'm so excited to say that notd has hit 100 followers on Google Friend Connect! I'll be adding some bonuses to the giveaway, but I want to know if you would rather have one big winner or two winners. Let me know!

notd: China Glaze Medallion

I wanted to add a little flare to my holiday manicure for tonight's party, but I wanted to wait until after my work party had ended.

It's over, so here's the gorgeous, sparkly fun that is today's mani:

I kept on yesterday's polish (Butter London Swinger) and just layered two coats of Medallion on top. It flashes so many different, gorgeous colors!

Here's a close-up shot of a nail (with blur to show you the sparkle!):

Loving this!

notd: Butter London Swinger

Love the name, love the color... even liked the application.

But I hated how opaque it was.

First off, this was very obviously a metallic... and I knew that going into this. Surprisingly enough, it wasn't that streaky. Yeah, you get a couple of brush strokes here and there, but that's part of life in this scenario.

What did suck? The SIX coats it took for opacity. Yes, six. Because it was necessary to wear this new color to my holiday party today, I sucked it up and went for it... but that doesn't mean I didn't complain.

Really though. Six coats = four too many.

Bought this (and another great color you'll see soon!) on Hautelook.

notd: OPI Visions of Sugarplum

(Blurry to show the shimmer)

So, with how much I love this color, there's one thing that bothers me...

Should be plural, kids. Should. Be. Plural.

And, as for Jen's comment... I ONLY use Remove+ by Zoya for a polish remover. It's a 3-in-1 product that takes off polish better than anything I've ever tried. And I swear my nails are stronger since I started using it.

Also, I wanted to leave a quick note about the giveaway going on... I know I'm already giving away six Zoya greens, but if I hit 100 Followers by the end of the giveaway, I'll sweeten the pot! So, only 35 more to go... please tell your friends!

notd: OPI Shim-merry Chic

Oh, the joy of this color! I'm dying for Merry Midnight  (I've gone to four different places to try and find it, but to no avail... now, to hunt online, I suppose.), so Shim-merry Chic is my gorgeous back-up.

I had to head over to ULTA to pick up Dazzled by Gold for Nikki (and grabbed her some other lovely things, too!) and couldn't resist the flaky goodness of this color. It's super blurred to try and show you the amazing flash and flutter of this gorgeous color.

Enlarge it to see even more, but the flakies, the sparkles, the shimmer... there's really nothing that isn't amazing about this shade. Even the application was top notch... and that's a big thing for me!

So, do you think OPI got this one right?

notd: Zoya Irene

Zoya Irene was a gorgeous green with yellow/gold undertones. I was afraid it would make my cool skin tone look a little weird, but it ended up okay in the end.

I never really explained to you guys why I started wearing nail polish. I have this strange little disorder called Raynaud's Syndrome, where my extremities don't seem to get enough blood flow to them and turn bluish (though others, like my mom, have been known to turn white). This is really, really bad below my nails, so a little polish really solves that problem.

And, since I can't do anything half way, I have a buttload of nail polish now. Could be worse, right?

I'm not even wearing this color anymore (I was cleaning and somehow got white paint smears on it... I'll photograph today's color for tomorrow), but it had to be shared. One more color you'd get if you won my giveaway!

notd: Zoya Suvi (A Green Friday Color!)

This went on smoothly, was totally opaque in two coats and, as you can tell, has an AMAZING lit-from-within look to it. Suvi is my new favorite green... at least for today!

(PS: Don't own Suvi yet? To win the bottle and five other Zoya greens, enter my giveaway!)

notd: Zoya Zara

It's a super busy Friday, and I'm wiped, but I wanted to swatch these (I had no idea I was so messy with this application... I'm so sorry!).

I'll get back to swatching the rest of the Zoya Greens soon, so you know what you get in the giveaway!

notd: Nicole by OPI Dream Catcher

Nicole by OPI Dream Catcher

This was actually a fun one to swatch, and a terrible one to wear. I put it on last night... five (yes, FIVE) coats later, I still have mad VNL. Next time I wear this, it'll be with a white base.

Also, as a sidenote, this 2003 release is NOT Big Three Free. Not by a long shot... so keep that in mind. It did, however, apply like a dream. A not-so-opaque dream, but a dream nonetheless.

notd: Zoya Envy

I'm going to try photographing this a couple of different ways, but in every way I've tried so far, it just looks black... which is pretty accurate to how it looks in real life.

Envy is a blackened green jelly (think everyone's lemming, Zulu) with a bit too much black. I like the color and I like the possibility that it offers, but there's no way to get it to not look so black (well, save some thinning and frankening)... because this was ONE COAT.

Says a lot about the pigmentation (which really is awesome), but still. Sad.

For better shots of this one based on color, check out ybpolish. Stellar photos!

Coco Rocha in Lippmann Collection's Happy Birthday

I'm not usually one to just post spamminess, but I love Miss Coco Rocha, and this picture (as well as her Lippmann-adorned nails) is amazing and must be shared!

Loving the Happy Birthday nails... and, I mean, how cute is she?!?!

notd: Zoya Jo

I woke up this morning and saw a ton of snow (okay, maybe like four inches, but still) and realized my pretty green manicure wasn't really all that appropriate. I let C. pick my color, and this is what he chose:

I'm not quite sure why this picture came out so well, but I'm glad! I'm starting to feel like my nail polishing skills have improved significantly... you know what they say, "Practice Makes Perfect!"

I also had a mini-haul yesterday... I had to get a gift for my boss' housewarming party, so I went shopping and got some Nicole by OPIs, Nic's Sticks, Essie and Rimmel polishes... but I've got about 7 more Zoyas to get too, too!

Zoya Get Even Basecoat (two coats), Zoya Jo (two coats), Zoya Armor (one coat).

notd: Zoya Midori (a Green Friday Color!)

I hope you didn't miss the chance to get your own Green Friday shades from Zoya, but if you did, I might be able to provide you with another chance... so stay tuned!

I switched out the Misa Forbidden Lust for a new Zoya last night, and it came out AMAZING. The BF even likes the color (though he's starting to get a little uncomfortable with my growing collection!), and I'm infatuated with it. Here are some shots:

Zoya Anchor (two coats), Zoya Midori (two coats... though from the look of the second shot, maybe I should've done three!), Zoya Armor (one coat) and some of the Speed Dry Drops.

I have the full Color Lock set, and it really is, in my opinion, worth every cent, particularly if you use Zoya polishes. It quadruples their life (not something that's so important to me, since I switch my lacquer every other day) but I feel like it's been making my nails stronger... and that's a big thing.

Also, I don't think I could live without Remove+. Just saying.

notd: A Misa that Worked! Misa Forbidden Lust

This is what I expected from Misa... but even I was pleasantly surprised! The bottle of Misa Forbidden Lust is kind of...lackluster (and I don't have it with me now, but if it's desired, I'll take a shot and add it to this when I get home). But on the nails?

You can't see the duochrome-y gorgeousness, but the color just... sigh. It looks like I just dipped my nails into the pot and they came out glossy, sexy and gorgeous.

Poshe basecoat (two coats), Misa Forbidden Lust (two coats... though I probably could've gotten away with one!), Poshe Super Fast Dry Topcoat (one coat)

notd: China Glaze Watermelon Rind

I'm only posting this because I love the color... I doubt anyone needs more Watermelon Rind swatches in their life, but it's so beautiful. So, the five of you who haven't seen it before, here you go!

Two coats of Zoya Anchor, Two coats of China Glaze Watermelon Rind, One coat of Seche Vite Top Coat.
